Fiber optics have long been touted as a wireless technology that can bring up to a gigabit of download speeds to your home or business.
But that hasn’t stopped some people from demanding that you pay more for the privilege of having the technology.
In the past few months, some consumers have been calling for a fee to be added to their wireless bill to support wireless services.
A new proposal from consumer advocate and technology company RWM Fiber Optics, however, is proposing to charge $100 for each gigabyte of data they deliver to consumers.
This would be an increase from $50, which currently covers basic internet and data speeds.
While this isn’t a huge increase for most people, it’s an important one for those who can’t afford the current $70 monthly rate.
While the proposal has not yet gone public, the company says it wants to offer it as a free option to its customers.
RWM has made similar changes in the past, most notably in the case of fiber-optic cables, which are a much cheaper way to provide internet to those who don’t have a high-speed internet connection.
But it’s also worth noting that the company is trying to make the changes to a new wireless service that will be rolled out in 2020, so it’s a bit early to tell whether this move will be enough to make a difference.
However, the proposed fee is a big step for a company that’s been pushing for an increase in its wireless service fees, which have remained stagnant or decreased over the past two years.
This isn’t the first time RWM fiber-to-the-home service has gotten attention, either.
In October, the telecom company announced plans to charge users $50 per gigabyte for its service to provide basic internet.
In March, the wireless carrier was the first major US carrier to introduce a $30 monthly fee for broadband services.
However, it was also the first to include the fee in its plans for the rollout of the service.
Rwm Fiber Optic’s new proposal is more specific, and it is targeting people who are willing to pay for a better wireless service.
The company says the $100 monthly fee is to be paid by customers who are paying $40 to $70 per month for their wireless service, and who will then pay an additional $10 per month to cover additional fees.
In addition, RWM says the additional fees will be added on top of the current monthly fee.
In short, the proposal would pay for the cost of providing the service to those consumers, who would then have the option to opt-out of paying for it.
It would also allow those consumers to choose a wireless service provider that does not include a monthly fee, which will be a more affordable option for them to use.
It’s unclear if RWM’s proposed fee would be applied to existing wireless subscribers as well.
It also remains unclear if the fee would cover the additional costs that would be incurred by people who were able to upgrade to the new service, or if Rwm is offering it as an additional option for people who can only afford a higher-speed service.
